Who Should Attend?
Those whose duty is to use, inspect and maintain ladders & stepladders in their workplace
Learning Objectives
Delegates will be competent to:
• Assess and determine when it’s appropriate to use a ladder or stepladder
• Correctly locate and safely use ladders & stepladders
They will have an understanding of:
• When it’s right to use a ladder or stepladder
• How to select and safely use ladders & stepladders
• The law/standards relating to ladders & stepladders
• Hazards in the use of ladders & stepladders
• Safe storage and handling of ladders & stepladders
• When it’s right to inspect a ladder or stepladder
• How to carry out a detailed visual inspection, record faults and what do if faults are found.
Format
The course is planned to run over 1 day.
Training Activity
• Slide led – trainer providing information and asking questions
• A group exercise on inspections & hazard analysis
• An individual questionnaire on using and inspecting Ladders & Stepladders
Assessment Process
There are assessment activities:
• 30 Multiple Choice Questions
• Practical – S.T.E.P Assessment of a Task, Pre-Use Check, Carrying & Setting Up a Ladder & Stepladder, Completing the Task, Completing a Detailed Visual Inspection.
Assessment
Open book exam with a pass mark of 80%
PPE
Suitable head / footwear and gloves during the practical session

Venue Requirements
A suitable classroom and practical area to accommodate 8 delegates for the theory and assessment sessions
Supporting Documents
Ladder Association summary notes for each delegate
Award
A Ladder Association certificate and LadderCard will be issued to successful delegates who complete the theory and practical assessment sessions at the level they attend the course which has a five year validity period
Literacy, Fitness & Health
Delegates must be numerate, literate and have a good command of English. They should be fit and capable of lifting, carrying and manoeuvring ladders and stepladders during the inspection process
