Who Should Attend?

Any person who has responsibility for overseeing the work of operatives on site ensuring that work is properly planned and organised and that those involved in carrying out the work are competent and properly trained, and that Ladders, Stepladders and Stepstools are correctly inspected and maintained.

Learning Objectives

Delegates will:

• Learn about current legislation, regulations and guidance affecting work at height using Ladders, Stepladders and Step Stools.

• Understand that they must resource work so it may be completed safely and efficiently.

• Learn the difference between pre-use and formal inspections.

• Understand the difference between maintenance and repairs, and who is allowed to carry these out.

• Learn the correct methods of disposal of equipment

Format

Instructor-led theory session with group exercises.

Assessment

Open book exam with a pass mark of 80%

PPE

Not applicable – the course is theory only so no PPE required

Venue Requirements

A suitable classroom to accommodate 12 delegates for the theory and assessment exercises

Supporting Documents

Ladder Association Code of Practice

Award

A Ladder Association certificate and LadderCard will be issued to successful delegates who complete the theory session and assessment exercises, which has a five-year validity period

Literacy, Fitness & Health

Delegates must be numerate, literate and have a good command of English.

Pre-Requisites

It would be envisaged that delegates, as Managers, will have a good working knowledge of the Work at Height Regulations 2005 and the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974.
