Ladder Association pays tribute to Douglas Clow
It is with great sadness that we report the passing of our respected and long-term ladder industry friend, Douglas Clow, Chairman of Clow Group Ltd, on 5th February after a short illness.
Chairman of Clow Group since 2008, Douglas also served as Past President and Secretary of the British Ladder Manufacturers Association (now the Ladder Association).
The family-owned Clow Group has grown from humble beginnings in 1913 in the East end of Glasgow to become a major manufacturer and supplier of access equipment and access solutions throughout the UK and the world.
The company scored a number of notable firsts within the industry including being the first manufacturer in the UK of fibreglass ladders. The company's development of the all fibreglass Clow Euroglass Ladder was recognised in 1991 with the John Logie Baird Award for Innovation. In 2008, Clow Group were granted a Royal Warrant as Manufacturers of Access Equipment to Her Majesty the Queen.
While the company still manufactures handmade timber ladders, the bulk of production centres around their range of fibreglass and aluminium ladders - all manufactured in the UK at their Glasgow and West Midland factories.
On behalf of the Ladder Association and our members, as we remember Douglas outstanding contribution to both our industry and the Association, we offer our heartfelt sympathies to Douglas' wife and family at this difficult time.
Funeral service, to which all friends are invited, will take place at South Lanarkshire Crematorium, Blantyre on Thursday 13th February 2020 at 3.30pm. Family flowers only.
