Ladder Association instructors
Every Ladder Association training course is delivered by a qualified instructor who is a subject matter expert on portable ladders. Together, our instructors help thousands of operatives learn to work confidently and safely with ladders and stepladders every year.
New booking system launched!
Booking an instructor onto a Ladder Association training session just got simpler! Whether they’re qualifying for the first time or upskilling at one of our regular training days, our smart new booking system will handle it all.
Until now, booking instructor training has involved various forms, emails, invoices and even phone calls. We know this is time-consuming, and it must be hard for you to keep track of what’s happening. So, we’ve made some changes.
Using our new booking system, simply select the course you want, pick a date, enter a few details and pay for it online. All this is done quickly and securely. As always, either the instructor (known as the ‘delegate’) can book for themselves or someone else can do it on their behalf (the ‘lead booker’).
Once the booking is confirmed, the lead booker and the delegate will receive a series of helpful emails with course materials, joining instructions and reminders before the day.
For added reassurance, you can also log in and see the courses you’ve booked and access all relevant information within your account. Any feedback from the trainer will be in there too, so it’s handy for future reference. It just means everything is there for you in one place.
All this really streamlines the process from our side too, so we’ve got more time to spend improving our courses, talking to instructors and doing what we love most – teaching people about the safe use of ladders.

To become a Ladder Association instructor, you must either be employed by a training member or register as a freelance (self-employed) instructor. You’ll also have prior knowledge and experience of ladders. On successful completion, you can run the following courses:
> Ladders & Stepladders for Users
> Ladder & Stepladder Inspection
> Ladders & Stepladders Combined Use & Inspection
> Stepladders & Stepstools for Users
> Ladders & Stepladders for Managers*
Instructor training is split into five modules. Modules 2 to 5 are mandatory for every new Ladder Association instructor. However, you may be exempt from module 1 if you’ve already got a recognised qualification in Instructional Techniques.
*Instructors must also attend a ‘Ladders & Stepladders for Managers’ course in order to then qualify to deliver the course themselves.
Once you’ve qualified as a Ladder Association instructor, it opens doors to more opportunities.
Become a lead instructor
If you think you have the skills to train instructors, then we would like to hear from you.
Successful candidates will be selected by an independent Selection Panel and will receive a daily fee when undertaking this important duty for the Ladder Association. Apply to be a lead instructor >>
Continuing Professional Development
Ladder Association instructors are expected to develop their own knowledge and skills in relation to ladders and work at height issues. You can get more guidance on CPD on the Online Registration System (you’ll find the CPD Guidance under ‘General Downloads’).
