Who will benefit from this course? This course is suitable for users of stepladders and step stools in places like shops, offices, schools, libraries and the healthcare sector.
Learning Objectives Delegates will be competent to:

  • Assess and determine when it’s appropriate to use stepladders & step stools
  • Correctly locate and safely use stepladders & step stools
  • Visually inspect stepladders and step stools for damage before and after use

They will have an understanding of:

  • What they need to know about the law and standards relating to
    stepladders & step stools
  • Hazards in the use of stepladders & step stools
  • Storage & handling of stepladders and step stools
  • Good practice for the safe use of stepladders and step stools
Method The course is planned to run over 4 hours
Training Activity

  • Slide led – trainer providing information and asking questions
  • An individual question paper on safe and effective use of Stepladders and Step Stools

Assessment Process

  • Theory – 20 Question, Multiple Choice Exam
  • Practical – Pre-Use Inspection & Using a Stepladder & Step Stool

 

Assessment Closed book exam with a pass mark of 80%
PPE Closed toe shoes, with good grip on the sole – no backless or high heel shoes; no socks, stocking or bare feet
Ideal clothing:
– No loose tops
– Jeans / trousers for men and women
Course content Current Legislation, Regulations and Guidance affecting work at height
Trainer / delegate ratio Maximum of 1:8
Venue requirements A suitable classroom to accommodate 8 delegates for the theory and
practical assessment sessions.
Supporting Documents Ladder Association summary notes for each delegate
Award A Ladder Association certificate and LadderCard will be issued to successful delegates who complete the theory and practical assessment sessions.
Literacy, Fitness & Health Delegates must be numerate, literate and have a good command of English. They should be fit and capable of stepping on to small steps, stepstools and dome type stools.
Qualifications & Experience No qualifications or experience are required for this course.
